zachary and miles on the first day of school

Two years ago today Zachary started his first day of kindergarten. The whole family—Jodie, Miles, and I—were there for this momentous day. Zachary would be in 2nd grade this year. He’d be reading well and doing math. He’d be learning about geography and science. He’d be writing sentences…

Booze!

So Stacy and I have been figuring out the drinking options for the wedding since last weekend. We had a few options including a full bar where people would buy their own drinks or just having kegs and wine to supply our guests with. We decided to go with the later and let the people drink for free. Stacys dad has already picked up the red wine and I think I am going to take Jodies advice and get some sparkling white (Lambrusco sp? From trader joes) for the white. But I can’t decide on the beer! It’s all up to me! This is pretty exciting. My ideal is to narrow it down to a few beers and then have a tasting (get drunk) and decide from there.

Anyone have any suggestions? I like red tail and all of the lagunitas. I think we will end up getting a smaller keg of great beer and then when everyone is a little more sauced up we’ll break out the big keg of pabst. Cause I like pabst a lot too.

I think we are just going to go with Korbel for the champagne unless anyone else has other suggestions.

Hit me!

Catch Up

Time to play a little catch up! We have been getting a lot done and its been such a good feeling. I’ll start with a few weeks ago. Time Travel with me:

Mid Feb:

We came down to Ventura to try a lead Stacy’s mom had for a caterer. We also had a meeting with a potential DJ. We also set up a last minute meeting with the jeweler who designed my cousins wedding ring.

We arrived late Friday night and got up early Saturday morning to make our way to LA to meet with the jeweler. We brought my grandmother and great grandmothers rings because we wanted to use the family stones from those rings. Mike (the jeweler) was quick in drawing something up that Stacy really liked. He even gave us a fairly good price. But it was something that we were going to have to think about it.

Stacy’s mom had another place that she wanted us to check out for a ring as well. We headed for the mall. Now, just so its known. I hate the fucking mall. It’s the worst. I am always weird about running into people I knew in high school and stuff. I just try and get in and out if I have to go there. So I wasn’t really looking forward to sitting in an open space while a dude showed us rings. But it turned out pretty good. No awkward interactions and the guy was pushy but really nice. I think all jewelers have to be a little pushy. His price was out of control though.

So Stacy and I still aren’t sure what we are going to about her ring. BUT we did get mine! Its super simple and exactly what I was thinking of. Its brushed titanium and its really light. I really like it.

Right after that we were off to try the food. I was pretty excited about this. Stacy’s folks (Margie and Dave) had been to this little place called Sabor in Oxnard and Dave was wild about it. Sabor is a traditional taqueria and has a pretty standard menu but are well known for their fish tacos. When we went in we asked for a sample plate and it came with all of their food. We had fish, carne asada, pollo, carnitas, and shrimp. They were all hell of good! I was super stoked! I jammed on all of the little street tacos and then went back up and ordered the chili verde. I was blown away. It was so good! We decided to go with the fish and carnitas and also Chili Verde with rice and beans. I am super excited for everyone to try it.

fish tacos!

The next day before we left to come home we met with the DJ. His name is DJ PM. He is an awesome guy who sounds like he belongs on the radio and really stressed that he would play what we wanted him to play. He asked us to make him so playlists and whatnot and he would take it from there. Stacy and I feel great about having him DJ.

We left after that and got back to regular life. In the next week we found the invitations we liked and ordered them. We have also been working hard on the invite list. That part is harder then you would think!

Last weekend was a really awesome wedding moment for me. My groomsmen were all in town and we had an appointment to get fitted for tuxes! Frank and John weren’t able to make it to the fitting but Wes, Duncan, Santi and Stacy and my mom were there and it was great. Dudes don’t have a lot to do that is just for them long before the big day but this really made me realize how close we are to the day. Its crazy! But so exciting. We went with a Calvin Klein Tux for everyone and it matches the bridesmaid dresses perfectly!

different jacket but same colors!

Wes is a pro

Now time travel with me to the present.

This morning we went and found a florist for our wedding! We went to Camarillo to the farmers market and found Gloria who works at “A Secret Garden Florist”. I’m not crazy about the name of the shop but they are local and grown their own flowers. They are beautiful and we got along with Gloria really well. We are excited to work with her.

We also went to Sabor again today and once again it was AWESOME.
